Economist and project leader at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), where he is responsible for coordinating the JRC work on innovation and entrepreneurship in rural areas. He has more than 15 years of experience in economic and policy analysis: before joining the European Commission, he worked as an economist at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC and before that, for the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Institute for Labour Economics (IZA), and the foundation Empower European Universities.
Simone holds a PhD in Economics from the United Nations University MERIT and Maastricht University, an MSc in Local Economic Development from the London School of Economics, and both a BSc and MSc in Economics and Business Studies from the University of Turin. He specializes in economic analysis of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), entrepreneurship, productivity, and local and regional economic development.
