Marcelo Gerlach

    He is a dedicated professional working toward a just, social-ecological society through sustainability and innovative practices. He combines research on social-ecological interactions with practical applications of nature-based solutions, drawing on his agricultural background. Marcelo has been involved in agroforestry research and has gained hands-on experience on farms in Latin America and Europe, while also collaborating with indigenous communities on land regeneration initiatives. His commitment extends to both formal and non-formal education, where he shares his knowledge and learns from others. With extensive experience working with organisations such as ICLEI Europe in various European cities and regions, and academic insights from institutions such as the University of Kassel, he remains committed to promoting resilient, sustainable systems that integrate environmental science with community-focused strategies. Based in Freiburg, Marcelo continues to shape forward-looking solutions for a more sustainable future.
